Algeria is a large resource-rich country on the north coast of Africa between Morocco, Libya, and Tunisia. The Mediterranean coastline is a mix of sandy beaches, rocky shores, and sloping mountains overlooking it all. The coastal geography and scenery is much like the southern shoes of France and Italy, though of course Algeria is much less known as a destination than its European counterparts on the other side of the Mediterranean. Nonetheless, the northern coast on the Mediterranean is beautiful. Owing to the fact that the country is rich in natural gas, they are investing in infrastructure, such that industry can be attracted, a better standard of living provided to the citizenry, and a more long-term economy established.
As an American business traveler, I was very limited in terms of freedom to get around. My company GE takes security very seriously, so we were escorted to/from the airport to each plant, with no stops in between. At two of the three plants I visited, we were housed in a camp. At one site in Annaba, I was in a hotel and managed to get a few decent photos.

Two Americans on the stack in Koudiet Eddraouch Algeria.

A local Algeria food favorite is called a briquette and it’s filled with beef, potatoes, cheese and vegetables. Yummy.

While driving through the streets of Algeria, it was noted that there is an abundance of fresh fruit markets, and women who dislike having their picture taken.
As I said before, the Mediterranean coast of Algeria is a beautiful place. While it surely can’t rival the Mediterranean coast of Spain, France, and Italy for amenities and five-star accommodations, it’s nonetheless gorgeous, welcoming, the people are very friendly, and overall it’s well worth the stay.
