Visiting Trader Sam’s Grog Grotto at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort

By Karen Lewis

Trader Sam’s Enchanted Tiki Bar

Trader Sam’s Enchanted Tiki Bar at the Disneyland Hotel is a fun place to grab a drink when you visit the Disneyland Resort. The bar is inspired by the Jungle Cruise. Trader Sam is the head salesman of the Amazon Jungle.

The atmosphere in the bar is unlike anything you can experience at Disneyland because there is a fun reaction that happens in the bar when you order your drink.

Trader Sam has opened another bar called Trader Sam’s Grog Grotto and is happily serving customers at Walt Disney World at the Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort.

“Reminiscent of a South Seas hideaway, Trader Sam’s Grog Grotto at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort whisks away guests to a tropical oasis with a selection of exotic cocktails, small plates and scenic views.  Located in the Great Ceremonial House, the themed lounge overlooks the resort’s marina and Seven Seas Lagoon and features signature beverages such as the Polynesian Pearl and Castaway Crush and a varied menu including pork pâté bánh mì sliders, Hawaiian poke, sushi and pan-fried dumplings. The lounge has 50 seats inside and 82 on the patio. Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort is located at Walt Disney World Resort in Lake Buena Vista, Fl.”

On the menu you will find some favorites from Trader Sam’s Enchanted Tiki Bar such as:

  • HippopotoMai-Tai
  • Krakatoa Punch
  • Shrunken Zombie Head
  • Uh-Oa!

New drinks that are available at Trader Sam’s Grog Grotto only are

  • Castaway Crush
  • Dark & Tropical Stormy
  • Nautilus
  • Polynesian Pearl
  • Tahitian Torch

Many of the drinks are served in a collectible Trader Sam mug or bowl.

Krakatoa Punch and HippopotoMai-Tai

Seating is very limited in both of the Trader Sam’s so be prepared to wait or try not to go on crowded days. Both of the bars are small and will seat about 50 people inside, both offer a patio area as well.

The decor of the bar is full of artifacts and souvenirs from Trader Sam’s travels. Be sure to spend time looking at all of the unique items.

The bartender area in Trader Sam’s Grog Grotto is up against one wall, unlike Trader Sam’s Enchanted Tiki Bar where it takes up a lot of the bar floor space.

Food options are also available, I highly suggest the pan-fried dumplings served with Soy-Sesame Dipping Sauce. Other food choices include kalua pork tacos with shredded cabbage and pickled vegetables; chicken lettuce cups and Hawaiian poke. The full menu can be viewed on the Walt Disney World site.
