“Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day” is based on the classic children’s book by award winning author Judith Viorst. Years ago I would read this book to my younger sons and we would share a laugh together each night. It was clearly one of our all time favorites, so I was so excited to learn that it was now a Disney movie and my daughter and I were invited to attend the media screening. We laughed throughout the entire movie and I highly recommend this film for families with children of all ages.
The movie follows 11-year old Alexander as he experiences the most terrible, horrible, worst day of his life. His day starts out with gum stuck in his hair and it doesn’t get any better. He goes on to tell his upbeat family about his disastrous day only to find little sympathy and wonders if only bad things happen to him. One simple birthday wish by Alexander changes all that.
Alexander’s mom (Jennifer Garner) and dad (Steve Carell), brother (Dylan Minnette) and sister (Kerris Dorsey) all find themselves having their own disastrous day. I love Alexander’s line at the end of the movie to his family, “Anyone who says there is no such thing as a bad day just hasn’t had one.”
“Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day” is truly inspiring and hilarious, a great family movie. I give it a BIG two thumbs up.
The film is out in theaters everywhere October 10, 2014!
